What you get/Gemba walks

The walk, kept.

Most of what a Gemba walk produces lives in one person's head and a notebook nobody else reads. Record the walk and it comes back as something you can hand to somebody.

What is in it

What was observed, where, and what follows from it. Not a transcript. A read, in the vocabulary the work is actually described in, so it is legible to the person who was not on the walk.

You can ask it things

The walk is not a document you file and forget. Ask what it saw at a particular station, ask it to compare what it saw against the standard, ask it to turn a section into an SOP. It answers about your line, not about a textbook.

Who it is really for

The people who were not there. A walk that only informs the person who took it has done a fraction of its job. This is the version that survives the week and reaches the supervisor on the other shift.

You are walking the floor tomorrow anyway. This is the version of it that outlives the day.
